These 14.1" notebooks are of a newer design when compared to the Dell D600 Latitude notebooks. It has a black finish and weighs around 2kg. Consider a light weight when is is launched in 2005/06. The pictured model is using a Intel Core Duo T2500 2Ghz with 2GB Ram and uses the Intel 945GM chipsets. It has a 80GB hard disk and a DVD+-RW optical drive. 4 USB ports, a serial port (good for configuring serial based devices), a external VGA, PCMICIA slot, a Giga Lan port and 56k modem (do we still used them??) and a three years international warranty round out the deal. At USD$2,000 3 years back, this was a steal. This model comes with a palm rest, a trackpad and pointing ball plus a 9 cell battery (3 hrs operation) It has Windows XP Pro installed and runs well.
I will know well since the pictured model is the model i am using now to type this blog entry. I do not have much love for dell previously thinking they always crashed (the consumer inspiron series inspired this problem). But this model has been serving me for the past three years with little problem except for the dvd writer which spoiled in the first year but was changed and working fine ever since. The mic pickup is good and sound is clear. It does not win any awards for its multimedia functions but serves well for the occasionally gaming and loud music 'jamming'. Guess the corporate series of Dell are indeed different from its consumer brothers. Now Dell also has the vostro series targetted at SME (small business enterprise). I will love to have a built in webcam but given the choice i have back then, this was good choice I have no regret since...
