A possible replacement model for the older HP NC6400 is the HP 6910p. This 14.1" widescreen notebook is designed for business users who are on budget and need dedicated graphics. We tried this for doing design (we used UG and solidworks). We can only say HP designed this notebook sophisticated enough to do basic designing on it; We are surprised as this model is not recommended for design work.
The pictured 2.1kg model comes with Intel PM965 "Santa Rosa" chipset, Intel core 2 duo T7500, 1GB DDR-667 Ram (notebook has 1 spare slot) and 120GB 5400 rpm hard disk. A ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 discrete video processor with 128MB of memory graphics card runs on this notebook. 3 USB ports, IEEE 1394 "FireWire" port, Intel 82566MM GigE Ethernet, Intel 4965AGN wireless, combo drive, Bluetooth, 56K modem, 6 Cell battery, 3 years carry-in parts and labour wrap out this powerhouse.
This is one of the notebook we used before other than the Dell 620 (see earlier posting) that comes with dualpoint (trackpad and rubber pointer) keyboard. The keyboard as all HP notebook are good for long term usage typing. A word of caution, get the XP Pro version of this notebook as it is more stable. For some reason the vista business tends to caused screen blackout on this model (resolved when SP1 is installed). It retails at around S$2,400 .
