Daily Life: New meaning to Chinese New Year

This week was Chinese New year week which starts from Sunday to Tuesday. Many Chinese families have their reunion dinner on Sunday night and visits start from Monday onwards.

This year onwards, CNY will have a different meaning to me. You see, based on my previous posting, readers will know that there is a health issue in my family. Actually its my second aunt. She is diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer 8 months before and have undergone 8 chemo sessions. Her cancer was under control but late last month, a visit to the doctor confirm that there is two water bag in her brain which sits on her nerve system. She is unable to talk and eat properly. As her health is very weak, the doctor is not able to operate and advise the family to prepare for the worst. At exactly 5.15pm on the eve of CNY, she passed away. I have to canceled my flight to Cambodia 2 days before as I am afraid such a thing will happen.

Her passing was not a painful one and is more of a relief on the family. At least she went peacefully. My other two aunts and mother (now the eldest among the sisters) are equally grateful she left peacefully though her presence will be missed greatly by all. Her wake went very smoothly and saw her off for the cremation on Thrusday.

My second aunt passing also reveal some in-family conflict among my aunts/mother and uncles. I fear that if my grandmother who is currently in a hospice passed away too, the family will fall apart with different sides taken.
