I was called back for my in-camp training n its my 6th reservist. Its a 1 week affair and this time round, we were upgraded to train on the SAR-21. When the weapon was in trial, I was about to end my active duty so I did not get to try the weapon.
The weapon is a bullup design where the barrel is in-built to make it shorter. The weapon weighs in at around 1kg more than the M-16 which I am very familiar with. The SAR-21 comes with built-in scope of 1.5x; I must admit the weapon is very simple to assemble and disassemble for cleaning. It has less parts to clean vs the old M-16.
After passing the TH (technical handling) test, we proceed to go for live firing or range on friday. As I am a right master eye user, by right I will need to have a deflector for M-16 but the SAR-21 comes with a built-in deflector and the way the rounds are chambered out of the gun, is does not affect right master hand users like myself.
The gun is factory-tuned and has less recoil vs the M16. On the whole, this time reservist was more relaxed though CQ side (where I am a 2IC) was still busy with setting up the stores for the range. The weather was also good with no rain during the range (it will affect visibility)
