Daily Life: Standard Chartered Marathon 2011

Today is the Standard Chartered Marathon 2011. This is the 10th year I am taking part in the SCM. I nearly unable to attend as I overslept until 4am. I have to rush out and take the MRT to Orchard. On the MRT, i can see my fellow runners and the air is full of tiger balm smell.

I was also having a running nose so was feeling under the weather. I was able to completed the first 18k with no issues but as the running nose is getting worse, i have to start walking. 2 of my colleagues also took part in this year marathon n i saw them on my way turning towards fort road. Its also getting a little hot due to the morning sun so have to walk and run. The run from fort road to the end point is full of surprise: As i know the road from fort road to the marina reservoir has no water point, i have to top up my running water bottle at the last water point just outside of fort road. Its a wise decision as I was able to run and get my fill of water until the next water point (near the country club)

There was also the banana and running supplments which the sponsor provided so i was able to retain most of my strength for the final kafter the 38K mark. The 38k mark also marks the start of the 'heartbreak bridge' which is the bridge towards the airport and move down towards the F1 track. For the first time, I was able to run up the bridge. Its a very special moment that I was able to do it this time round. To make up for lost time, I continue to run all the way missing out the water points all the way until the end point. As my energy level remains high, i was able to continue running though at a slower pace as I don't wish to have a 'flat Tyre'.

All in all this year run is good and I was glad I took the correct decision to go for the marathon despite waking up late. (supposed to wake at 3am)
