My aqua socks which has served me during my KL marathon and daily training runs has finally give way. My last run 2 weeks ago as i blogged earlier gave me my first major blister on my left foot near the ball. I was fortunate that I met with my Chi running trainer on Monday near my workplace. Though it was a holiday I was back at work in the office so I ask him for some advice on why i have the blister n how to avoid it.
After looking at the poor condition of my aqua socks and my injury (I had to stop running for one week because of it), he recommended that i change to a new pair of shoes. One that is zero drop like the one he is wearing which is the New Balance minimus zero. The zero drop is the heel to the front of the shoe is flat so it will have a better ground feedback, something we will need as barefoot runners, for us to adjust our running form.
After the meeting I went online to search and came out with a list of running shoes that I am interested. Yes there are many minilist running shoes around but not all are zero drop and some reviews favor the rest vs others. So i went through those that fit my health bill and my running form and went shopping. My first stop is my fav at sportslink at AMK. It should have the shoes i need as so i thought but I left disappointed as they do not carry the ones i looking for. So i have no choice to but wait another day and go to Novena running lab to get my shoes.
They have some of the models i looking for but the Saucony Hattori which i am interested in do not have my size. I wear size US 10.5 but for some reasons, the Hattori cannot not fit for 10.5. The only larger size at 11 fit just nice but i perfer my shoes with a little breathing space plus i will be wearing shoes to run. I asked for the New Balance since that is the one they have and wear it. it has the same ground feedback as my aqua socks though a little lesser than i have prefer. Its the only one and since I have my army half marathon coming up in 3 weeks time, i have to start training so i just bought it at S$155. Its the fastest shoe shopping ever.
I will have to test it tomorrow at my workplace and see if it can run as well as my trainer says.
