IT: Review on Dell Latitude 5440

Its been so long since I last did a review on notebooks. Its not because I don't want but there is no much notebook purchase until recently.

Dell released a whole range of latitude series to replace the older 5430 series of notebooks. the 4 is referring to 14" in display size and the new series is called Latitude 14 5000 series. Need to get used to it but its the replacement for the 5430.

With a newer I5 processor and 64-bit OS (Windows 8.1 Pro), it performs just as well as its previous brother. I still like the keyboard which makes typing easy. Though this model comes optional with a touch screen display, we choose a more standard one since we intend to use Windows 7 SP1 64-bit instead.

Dell has some problems with their Windows 8.1 notebooks so its safer to use Win 7 in production environment. And since its 64-bit, i can move up to 8.1 once things has more or less settle down. The weight of the 5440 is still around 2kg.

The battery is removable and the bottom tray can be easily removed to access to RAM and hard disk upgrades. I still like this model and will most likely be the standard deployment unit for most of my users unless lightweight is a requirement.
