Daily Life: Vmware Technology Day 2012 in KL

Since company is having a shutdown on May 7 and my colleagues are going for the Vmware Technology Day 2012 in May 17, i decided to go for the first one which is in KL on May 8. I took a coach up on May 7 and already it was a eventful one.
For starters, it was raining in the morning for 5 mins so i have to bring my umbrella all the way to KL and back, second one of my vm host went offline taking with it the HR guest server. HR was back to office on Monday despite the shutdown to clear the CPF issues n some salary items.Luckily the problem is due to a power shutdown of the vm host; after my colleague went and on the server no more issues. so need to monitor the issue.I book the same hotel i am going to stay in KL coming June, Lotus Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Its just a stone throw from Citin hotel and closer to Masjid Jamek MRT.

The Vmware event itself was very good with good speakers. Its more of a technical sharing day where vmware has its chief trainer Denny to guide on the new sexy tools available in vsphere 5.0. The technical depth is there and though i have experience with setting vmware, i think my colleagues will still get to learn much from the event. The 2 letdowns are the 2 partner speakers from EMC n netapp who spend time on marketing their product and me sitting with a bunch of indian supposed IT professionals who keep talking for the whole duration of the event from morning to end.  I wanted to ask them to stop but decided not to as i am in Malaysia and not in SG. Its their local area and the last thing i want is to get screwed.

The event is at InterContinental hotel, next to Citbank KL where my brother used to work at and was a short distance to KLCC. After the event ended, i went to grab my dinner and had a movie (lockout) before coming back to hotel to key in this blog posting.

Daily Life: Day 3 in KL

I had a good sleep until 10.45am. As my room do not have a window, i am not affected by the weather. Since it is close to lunch time, i decided to skip breakfast and go and look for the Indian Vegetarian Restaurant called Saravanaa Bhavan. I had to walk twice before i found it by mistake. It is hidden from view by the hawker center in the middle. I had to walk towards buying fruits from the stall in the hawker center then make a detour before i find the restaurant.

Its vegetarian and since it is still early, I am one of the first few customers. I ordered the banana leaf meal and a glass of rose milk. The service is quick and quiet. The food is good and i must say it is not bad for vegetarian food. I prefer mine to be a little more spicy though. The bill runs into RM17 due to the rose milk drink which i had. If not, the meal is just RM9.50. Remember that I am eating in a restaurant and not in the road side so it will definitely cost more.

Since I got time until 6pm and wants to look for subway restaurant for my dinner and use my coupon, i decided to take a ride to KLCC. Its direct from where i stay and cost RM1.60. As I reach KLCC, it is joined to the mornial station via a subway tunnel. I decided to go for a movie and decided on Dylan Dog: Dead of Night and paid RM13 for it. Not bad as it is still cheaper vs SG. Since I got time to kill (movie starts at 3.20pm, i bought ticket at 12.40pm), I decided to have a cup of coffee to re-charge. I then decided to go for a walk in the nearby KLCC park. It more refreshing as I am taking in fresh air. The kids and their family are also out and enjoy a dip in the pool.

The movie ended and I went to take my subway dinner inside the KLCC park. The meal i took is the Hearty Italian 6" spicy Italian with BBQ sauce. Its not bad but the sauce do not have the same flavor as the SG branches. Having my dinner outdoors is a little like having a picnic. KLCC park has a lot of benches to sit down so choosing one is not issue. There is also the trees to provide the shade anyway.

I had my dinner, bought my mineral water from cold storage and makes my way home to the hotel. While tying this entry, I am enjoying a round of fishballs which i bought from Cold storage.
