There is a Trojan horse or what layman say virus spreading through skype. It appears as a link to download pictures. What is worse is it is spread from contacts whom you given access to and people we know.
The link will download a *.scr file which executed will make registry changes. The infected PC will become part of a bigger cluster of infected machines and spread this Trojan horse within the infected PC 's skype contact. Even if the machine is not infected, the virus will still spread itself using the contact list.
For those who save skype chat history, it will appear as part of the chat history. Just delete this chat history entry and it will be ok.
The only way is an age-old remedy, Use skype as a communication tool and avoid sharing contacts with people whom we do not know. And keep our anti-virus up-to-date. Spend some money to purchase anti-virus or internet security products which are known to work and all will be well.

Internet security?
At work today, my colleague is asking me on internet security solution. Which is better, PC cillin or kaspersky internet security.
My reply was kaspersky. Reason being i tried the product before and it is good on saving system resources; not that my notebook is too slow but if it can do more with less, why not. I tried Norton Internet security before and my notebook is crawling even with 2GB DDR-2 Ram!
Anyway for those who are not so 'IT on', internet security solution is anti-virus, anti-spam, parental control, application control, anti-phishing and client firewall all round into one product. It is more economical and offer a single point of configuration.
But end of the day, it is not a silver bullet. the user still needs to configure it and sometimes, it can be so problematic, users just switch off all the protection in exchange for fast, no fuss internet connection.
if interested to know more about how the different vendors mix against each other, go to a third party independence vendor neutral website like www.virusbtn.com.
