One of my uncle's friend recently called me and asked me for some help with his PC. Thinking it is a software issue, i bought a windows XP CD to his home at Bukit Batok. boy was i wrong big time. When i first on the PC, everything is working fine. But once i restart the PC, a long beep sound is heard and continuously.
Thankfully I know from experience this could be only 3 reasons, the motherboard is spolit, the power supply is faulty or the RAM is faulty. Since i do not have the necessary equipment, I brought the PC back with me and I started some troubleshooting. I used a spare power supply to test the second theory; problem still there. I change a new RAM. And problem seems to be resolved.... So I switch off and let the PC 'sleep' for a while. Then I on once more, erika! problem resolved.
Using my starhub 3G modem, i upgrade the PC to windows XP SP3 and its various patches. Left it running overnight and still ok. So confirm that RAM is faulty. Change it and bring the PC back to my uncle's friend. Thankfully my experience with resolving PC plays off or i will be giving wrong advice to my 'customer'. RAM issues are always tough to pinpoint and only engineers who encounter the problem before will notice the tell-tail signs.
What is RAM? in a layman way, think of it as the cc of a car. It allows the operating system (OS) and programs to be loaded from hard disk into memory to fasten the processing time; Even though bigger is better, once it hit a size limit, there is no better improvements.
