Daily Life: Safra 21K Marathon

Today I was one of the 70,000 runners at Safra Marathon. How many of the 70,000 are 21K runners I do not know but one thing is for sure, there is a lot of runners at the 21K category. With my experience at the KL marathon, I decided to do the same for my meals, that is one day before the event, yoghurt after dinner and yoghurt before the event itself. I also take a cup of plain water before the run and was glad to do it. I will explain later why.

This run was also different as from July to Sept, I did not have any time to do my runs though i managed to find time to go for my badminton & swimming. So i thought I will walk for the duration of the run but guess things will work out right. We started on the dot at 5.15am and run though the CBD area like usual but with more turns. Then we entered into ECP to the Marina barrage. That was still early in the morning so its very dark. The road will lead to Tanjong Ru and it was dark with one section of the run we have to move slowly as there is still constructions and there is only one opening. Imagine 20,000 runners (example) moving through the opening and u will know how slow it will become. I did not take any walk for the first 5K as the morning cup provides me the water needed. Its important as I know from experience that taking water too early will cost me my run.

I also try to take only one cup of water mix with one cup of 100 plus. This is to reduce the sodium intake. at the 13K mark the helpers were giving out banana and it is good that I took one. It helped me clear the remaining distance without any water intake until the 15k mark. The worst part of my run was the uphill at Fort canning park. I had just taken my gel and in need of some water intake so I did a slow slow run up. My legs are cramping but i flatly refuse to give up after all, I had went pass 16K worth of hell distance so no point giving up at this point. The run from chinatown to the finish line was uneventful. There are not too many supporters like what i saw in the Standard Chartered Marathons. I refuse to run fast and continue at my own pace. My legs are cramping so if i run fast, i will 'kill' my run instantly.

I finish the run at around 2.47.01. Not too bad since i did not have runs after my June Marathon. I took a picture of myself after i reached home around 9am. Since i know that my aunt have bought breakfast for me, i decided not to indulge in Macdonalds big breakfast like what i did after previous SAFRA marathons
